Taking a back seat

I’m making a few changes to my online interactions.
- Chicken Little Remix will no longer be updated. There will be no 10.04 from me.
- I will no longer be visiting certain websites, under any circumstances, courtesy of 127.0.0.1 entries in /etc/hosts. This includes sites such as Ubuntu Forums, some blogs, and some “news” sites.
- I will be blocking some people from Twitter, in order to avoid their @mentions from appearing to me.
- I may (this is undecided) opt to change my anything-goes policy regarding comments on my blog. Redacted comments will have their content deleted, to make it clear that a comment is redacted, not held in moderation
Some things, however, will NOT be changing.
- I will continue my efforts in Debian. In fact, these efforts will be redoubled.
- I will continue my efforts in Ubuntu. In fact, these efforts will be redoubled.
- I will maintain my existing IRC, Twitter, email & IM presence.
- I will, when the opportunity arises, combine sweet and savoury foods.
Thank you for your time.

Congrats!
And happy happy November 25th!

I think you’ve taken a good decision.
I just hope I will be strong enough to follow your footsteps on this wise path towards a happier life.

Looks like I’m missing something here:
I don’t understand what is the problem with Ubuntu forums…
Pardon my ignorance, there probably is something wrong with it, but I simple don’t know what is. Care to explain?

Guess I’m on my own for being pro-Mono in the Ubuntu Forums? ;) Oh well, I like causing trouble.

Congrats! But also, don’t forget to add blogging/tweeting about floofy chinchillas to your “will NOT be changing” list!

@Jeffrey Stedfast, the floof goes on, but Mio has resigned her post as a Microsoft Technical Evangelist

Having recently made the same decision about the Kubuntu forums I can understand where you are coming from. The only thing that concerns me is that the absence of those of us who like mono will give the FSF zealots free reign to continue their mono FUD. This disturbs me somewhat. To be clear, I have no problem if someone doesn’t like mono and doesn’t want to use it. I do have a problem when people, like one particular Kubuntu forum moderator, posts accusations such as implying that Microsoft paid off Mark Shuttleworth to have C# developers placed in the Ubuntu Technical Board in order to sway the board towards making Ubuntu dependent upon mono.
Wish you the very best Jo and I look forward to reading some more of your blog posts.

@Steve,
Actually upon rereading the thread, he didn’t actually say Microsoft paid off Mark Shuttleworth. He said that commercial C# developers purchased seats on the Ubuntu Advisory Council in order to stay the UTB into making Ubuntu defendant upon mono. He also very strongly hinted that Mark Shuttleworth profited from this. Sorry about this error in my previous comment, I was posting from memory and my memory these days is a bit hazy.

@Steve, he’s still making serious accusations with no foundation in reality. Such is life.

@directhex,
Very true Jo, hence the problem. Seeing how he is a forum moderator his voice carries a lot of weight. On the one hand I feel that leaving the forums is a good idea, because I don’t like him making personal attacks on me. On the other hand, it annoys me to see him spreading half-truths and false accusations unchallenged. Still as you say, such is life.
Still there is one positive, before his threads, I knew next to nothing about mono (or C#). After researching his claims, I’ve become fascinated by C# and mono and I’ve started to teach myself programming using both. That forum moderator was less then pleased when I thanked him for giving me the opportunity to learn about mono ;). Hopefully once I’ve learnt enough I can be contribute to the community by helping out on an open-source C# project.
